Génesis • Presented at the Maryland Institute College of Art's 20th Annual Benefit Fashion Show
Génesis marks the beginning of the Luis Rivas studio. Invoking the architectural sensibilities of 20th century design-- Balenciaga, Dior, and Vionnet-- this collection is a contemporary study of form and wearability in shades of black, silver, and blue. Heavy textiles are rendered buoyant in refreshing cocktail dresses and bias-cut crêpe is elegantly molded to the body, hinting at the sensuous figures beneath like Classical sculptures. Simplicity is key to these modern cuts while leather piping and hand-stitched hems assert the importance of artisanal craftsmanship to the designer.
